چکیده

In the past few years, our understanding of the dynamics of Haemophilus parasuis infection has greatly improved. Techniques such as polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for detection of this microorganism in clinical samples and genotyping of field isolates have certainly enhanced our knowledge on prevalence and epidemiology of infection. Although we still have a long way to go regarding the development of effective control measures, the techniques available for H parasuis diagnosis are extremely useful for surveillance and management of infection. This report will describe the diagnostic techniques currently available for diagnosis of H parasuis. It will also address the advantages and limitations of each technique and discuss how data can be correctly interpreted.

Prevalence and seroepidemiology of Haemophilus parasuis in Sichuan province, China

Haemophilus parasuis, the causative agent of Glässer's disease, has been reported as widespread, but little is known about its epidemiology in the Sichuan province of China. The goal of our research is to reveal the prevalence and distribution of H. parasuis in this area. Sampling and isolation were performed across Sichuan; isolates were processed using serotyping multiplex PCR (serotyping-mPC...

Identification of a class B acid phosphatase in Haemophilus parasuis.

An acid phosphatase activity was detected in the supernatant of Haemophilus parasuis, a Gram-negative pleomorphic bacillus and the causative agent of Glässer's disease in pigs. To identify the gene responsible for the secreted activity, a genomic library of H. parasuis strain ER-6P was produced in Escherichia coli. Screening of the library allowed identification of two homologs to known phospha...

Map-Based Comparative Genomic Analysis of Virulent Haemophilus Parasuis Serovars 4 and 5

Haemophilus parasuis is a commensal bacterium of the upper respiratory tract of healthy pigs. However, in conjunction with viral infections in immunocompromised animals H. parasuis can transform into a pathogen that is responsible for causing Glasser's disease which is typically characterized by fibrinous polyserositis, polyarthritis, meningitis and sometimes acute pneumonia and septicemia in p...

Interactions of Haemophilus parasuis and its LOS with porcine brain microvascular endothelial cells.

Haemophilus parasuis is a swine pathogen that causes Glässer's disease, which is characterized by polyserositis and meningitis. The pathogenesis of the H. parasuis infection is poorly understood. To cause meningitis, H. parasuis has to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) to gain access to the central nervous system (CNS). We recently showed that H. parasuis adheres to and invades porcine brain ...

Use of a proposed antimicrobial susceptibility testing method for Haemophilus parasuis.

The aim of this study was to examine the antimicrobial susceptibility of 97 Haemophilus parasuis cultured from Australian pigs. As there is no existing standard antimicrobial susceptibility technique available for H. parasuis, methods utilising the supplemented media, BA/SN for disc diffusion and test medium broth (TMB) for a microdilution technique, were initially evaluated with the reference ...
